Monday Night Scene Study (On-Going)

Service Description
A developed culture of practice exists in every art form and every sport. Musicians have scales, etudes, and instruments they return to daily. Painters keep showing up to their canvases, cultivating the quiet work of finding their voice, creation after creation. Athletes train multiple times a week on their own or with coaches and teammates, driven by the desire for excellence. But for actors? Unless we’re actively booked or prepping an audition, the idea of staying in practice often feels elusive. When opportunities do come, we can end up in our heads, self-critical, or afraid of when it will all be over, unsure of when we’ll get another shot. Acting may be a job, but it is also one of the most exquisite art forms ever developed, and our relationship to that art form is like any other meaningful one in our lives. If we want it to show up for us, we have to show up for it. Broken Mirror’s foundational philosophy is Artistry Over Industry, and our Monday Night Scene Study is our commitment to that perspective. An ongoing, week-after-week opportunity to build, maintain, and sharpen your relationship to your craft. Not only so you’re better prepared when the industry calls, but so you can stay in love, in practice, and in awe of an art form that, when treated like a friend rather than a resource, will always give back more than it takes. Each class begins with a 30 to 40 minute warm-up introducing tools and techniques that carry directly into the work, followed by two hours of scenes, monologues, and recalls. You will be asked to confront habits of control, trust the profundity of your imagination, work from a sense of enoughness, approach text and analysis with clarity and transformation in mind, and recognize that our blocks are often the shortest path toward building empathy with character. This is an ongoing practice for artists, seasoned or brand new, who want to explore new life in an old tradition, build community, and develop agency in their craft. Class is $225 a month with sliding scale options. The first month includes a $25 deposit Note: Once a student is invited to enroll, they may begin immediately. For students who book work while in class, we offer a leave of absence policy so your practice supports your career, not the other way around.
