Exploring Chekhov

This 4-week course is for actors who have previously trained in the Non-Dominant Approach and who want to re-engage with scene work through the vivid, human, and deeply layered world of Anton Chekhov. Chekhov’s work is infamous for its duality. The anguished tether between the character’s text - what is literally spoken, and the oceans of humanity beneath the surface, - unuttered, yet painfully witnessed. In this 4 week lab, we’ll be using exercises from the Non-Dominant toolkit to reveal character from the inside out: not by analyzing their psychology, but by dealing with their problems, their relationships, and longings. This 4-week course is an opportunity to return to language without dominance; for allowing the text to emerge rather than be delivered; for finding the soul of the character by listening to what’s already alive within you.
